5-alarm construction project fire causes building collapse

HOUSTON (FOX 26) -

An apartment complex under construction near the historic Montrose District has begun to collapse following a five-alarm fire.

The fire on West Dallas Street near Marconi, first reported as two-alarm status, was later upgraded as the flames spread throughout the five-story building on Tuesday afternoon.

The Houston Fire Department is approaching the fire in defensive mode because of the black smoke and heavy flames.

JLB Partners is the company that owned the building under construction. The company is based in Dallas.

The American Red Cross will provide snacks and cool water to first responders at the site of the fire, according to a statement released by the organization.
