FORT WORTH, Texas -

Three Fort Worth officers are crediting with saving the life of an accident victim early Thursday morning.

According to Cpl. Tracey Knight with the Fort Worth Police Department, the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of Northwest Loop 820 near Marine Creek Parkway.

An SUV that was heading westbound on the loop went over the guardrail and landed on the embankment below.

Officers Holt, Proffitt and Guffey noticed the vehicle was beginning to catch fire. They rushed to pull the trapped driver out through a shattered windshield, Knight said.

"These officers conducted themselves admirably and without hesitation to rescue the trapped driver," she said.

A civilian who was riding along in the patrol car also helped control the flames with a fire extinguisher, Knight said.

The driver was taken to the hospital in an unknown condition.
