Suspect Dead After Police Pursuit In Atlantic City

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -

A police chase through several New Jersey towns came to a deadly end on Thursday.

It all happened near a busy Atlantic City shopping center in the middle of the afternoon.

Fox 29's Drew Dickman reports live from the scene.

According to initial reports, it all began in Pleasantville Township and ended on Atlantic Avenue and Missouri Avenue, near the Tanger Outlets, The Walk.

Police say the suspect was allegedly shooting out of his car window during the chase. Police eventually were able to get that suspect's vehicle to stop at the intersection.

There was an exchange of gunfire, which ended in the loss of life for the suspect.

The suspect has not been identified.

Witnesses say they heard what sounded like semi-automatic weapons.

"Wow, I thought we would be safer than this. It happens. People getting shot out here. I don't want to be walking down the street one day and get shot," Lance Gatewood, a store employee said.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office will continue to look for evidence throughout the night.

We'll keep you updated on any new information that comes in.
