13 departments fight brush fire in Denton County

Posted: Updated:

LEWISVILLE, Texas (AP) - Fire crews have been patrolling an area along Denton County's Lake Lewisville in North Texas where a stubborn 100-acre brush fire has drawn the attention of 13 fire departments.

The closest homes are about a half-mile away and no injuries have been reported but firefighters have been digging trenches to keep the flames from spreading. The blaze that began Sunday has been pushed by winds as high as 30 miles per hour.

Denton County authorities say while the fire was about 90 percent contained by Sunday night, it could take days to extinguish because crews are being forced to let the fire burn itself out.

Chief Fire Marshal Jody Gonzalez tells the Denton Record-Chronicle (http://bit.ly/1lxFaVj ) the biggest problem is lack of access and firefighters can't get to the fire.
