The driver of a car was able to escape before it burst into flames on a Dallas freeway Tuesday morning.
It happened at about 5 a.m. on northbound Stemmons Freeway near the Woodall Rogers intersection.
Lionel Smith said he pulled over because he was having some engine trouble. Not long after the car caught fire.
"I saw a few flames after a popped the hood so I decided against that and when I saw some more flames and it started getting more and more smoky I just started grabbing all my stuff out of the car at that point," he said.
Smith was able to a cherished scrapbook from his days as a member of the National Guard.
No one was hurt.
