NYC girl desperately needs a new kidney; can you help?

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

There's no question that 5-year-old Kinsey Saleh is spunky. Yep, this Queens girl is sassy and smart. While most girls Kinsey's age beg mom for a new doll, Kinsey's plea is one no child should ever have to say: "Give me a new kidney."

Kinsey is in end-stage kidney failure. It can't get any worse. For four months now, three times a week, three hours each day, she receives dialysis just to stay alive.

Kinsey's mom, Nadine Morsi, was a perfect match but in a cruel twist. She wanted to donate but was rejected.

Renal failure in children is rare, only 15 in 1 million. Kinsey is now on a waiting list along with 80 other children in the New York region.

Dr. Corrine Benchimol is Kinsey's doctor at Mt. Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital. The doctor says the sooner Kinsey gets a new kidney the better.

It's a race against time for Kinsey. But anyone who knows Kinsey, knows she's ready to live a long, happy and healthy life with someone's help.

Several beaches on the New Jersey and New York coastlines are open to visitors but closed to swimming because of high surf and dangerous rip currents. The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory and Rip Current Statement for the area beaches because of the effects of Hurricane Cristobal, which is expected to track south and east of the Jersey shore through Thursday.

The U.S. Open is underway in Queens and there's no denying that many of the players, both men and women, are in great physical shape and know how to play that up. Women are particularly promoted in the industry as attractive, fashionable and fiercely competitive. Does that help the game and draw more people in?
