Female WWII Vet Inspires Soldiers In Houston

Posted: Updated:

A 94-year old female World War II veteran now serves as an inspiration to soldiers in Houston.

KRIV reports that Viola Kaplan, a Women Army Corps staff sergeant, was honored by the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese as a part of Women's History Month.

During World War II Kaplan reported to General Douglas Macarthur in Africa.

"I loved dealing with the soldiers and anything that I could do and could contribute... I wanted to do," said Kaplan.

Kaplan was highlighted during the event in hopes of encouraging other female veterans as they shift to private life.

Catholic Charities Facebook page states that Kaplan was granted her award as a thank you her for her "brave military service." This honor was awarded by Dr. Hunter Hammill, M.D., physician at the Woman's Hospital of Texas and Army Reserves.
