The city of Dallas is one of six finalists to host the 2016 Republican National Convention.
City leaders presented plans before the Republican National Committee last month in Washington D.C.
They tried to convince committee members that the American Airlines Center is the perfect place for the party's next convention.
Mayor Mike Rawlings said the city has $40 million committed to cover the cost of the event.
Other finalists include Cincinnati, Cleveland, Denver, Kansas City and Las Vegas.
The selection committee plans to visit the cities before late spring and make a final decision by late summer or early fall.
The last time Dallas played host to the convention was in 1984 when Ronald Reagan was running for president.
