MINNETONKA, Minn. (KMSP) -

Two-year-old Bishop Hooks was reunited with his grandmother Monday night, three days after a high-speed crash on Interstate 694 killed his parents.

Wilbur and Patrice Hooks of Hopkins, Minn. were killed when their speeding Chrysler 300 rear-ended a semi on eastbound I-694 in Fridley, Minn. shortly after 8 p.m. Friday. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Wilbur Hooks was driving about 100 mph at the time of the crash.

Miraculously, little Bishop escaped the crash nearly unscathed.

"I'm just happy to be with him -- be together with him," grandmother Patricia Jackson said.

"She won't be raising him alone because she has way too much help," said Bishop's aunt, Brenda Hunter. "That's a blessing and he'll never want for anything, and we'll always keep Patrice alive so he'll always know who is mother was."

Patrice was 4 1/2 months pregnant, meaning Bishop lost a future brother or sister in the crash too.

FOSTER PARENT HAPPY TO REUNITE FAMILY

"I'm a retired firefighter," said foster parent Lou Desposito, who took care of Bishop after the crash. "I looked at that car and said if I pulled up on that scene I figured it would be a canvas-covered car and that's it – it was pretty graphic."

Desposito has been a foster parent for the past two years. In that time, he has taken care of 15 children. When he found out he'd be picking up Bishop, he couldn't wait to reunite the little boy with his family.

LEFT WITH EMPTINESS

Family members confirmed Hooks was driving without a license, and Hunter said the family is "devastated" because he "should not have been driving."

"Now we are left with the emptiness of not knowing why he was ever going 120 mph," she said.

Court records show Wilbur Hooks had been convicted of drunken driving twice in the past. In 2007, he was ordered to serve 180 days in the workhouse. Three years later, he was sentenced to three years in prison. As recently as 2012, he was arrested for driving after his license was revoked.
