The Insurance Council of Texas estimates the storms that rolled across the Denton area last week caused about $300 million in insured losses.
The April 3 thunderstorms produced up to softball-sized hail that pelted everything below. An estimated 24,000 vehicles and 12,000 homes were damaged, according to the insurance council.
"Insurance companies are moving as quickly as possible in assessing the damage to everyone's property in the area. Once the damage has been determined, we highly recommend that policyholders turn to local businesses for their auto and home repairs," said spokesman Mark Hanna.
The storms also caused damage on the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University campuses, as well as many businesses.
