Dozens displaced by 4-Alarm Pleasant Grove apartment fire

Posted: Updated:

More than fifty people are without a home after an early Saturday morning fire at the Maylan Palms Apartments in Pleasant Grove.

Dallas Fire Rescue workers are searching for two people who are unaccounted for. Both are residents of the apartment.

Investigators said the fire started in an apartment with no electric service by candles the resident was using to light the unit. The fire destroyed two buildings housing 36 units. According to fire officials, both will need to be torn down for safety.

A Pleasant Grove firefighter was taken to Baylor University Medical Center after fighting the fire. He first went back to the fire station and was later taken to the hospital. His injuries are not known.

A Dallas Fire Rescue chief said responding crews arrived to find one building on fire around 3:30 Saturday morning, but learned the fire had spread to the second building leading to the additional alarms.
