Man refusing 2nd round of vehicle impound fees after apparent error

DETROIT (WJBK) - A Detroit man found and retrieved his stolen car from an impound lot, only to have it impounded again weeks later by error.

Natoine Massey says when his car was stolen in January as it was parked in front of his home on Eureka Road and East Outer Drive on the city's east side.  

Massey tells FOX 2's Ron Savage he went online and saw, in February, his vehicle identification number was listed at an impound lot. His stolen vehicle was in a crash and Detroit police had it towed to the lot.

Massey went to the lot and paid nearly $1,000 to get the vehicle out.

Then, three weeks later, police impounded the vehicle again because it hadn't been removed from their stolen car list.

Massey refused to pay the $125 to get it out of impound, saying it should have never been impounded a second time. Meanwhile, the impound fees are continually climbing, currently sitting at $660.

Police say they are reviewing the case and will look into it thoroughly.
