Work begins on cottages for homeless

Posted: Updated:
DALLAS -

Work will start Thursday on a new housing project to help some of the chronically homeless in Dallas.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and many other area leaders will hold a ground-breaking ceremony for the Cottages at Hickory Crossing, located in south Dallas on Malcolm X Boulevard near Interstate 30.

The $8 million facility will provide homes for 50 people who suffer from mental illness and have also been in the criminal justice system.

They'll live in freestanding cottages and will also get intensive mental health and social services.

The project is supported by a number of public and private organizations in the Dallas area.
