9 Year Old Girl Fights To Keep Her Unusual Pets

Posted: Updated:
A nine-year-old girl is fighting to keep her best friends. They are four chickens living in Raine Mathes' backyard in Kentfield California.

“I love my chickens they just seem to listen to you,” says Raine Matthes about her friends, Izzy, Collette, Phillipa and Bardrock.

The homeowners association is suing her family over keeping the chickens.

They say having farm animals is against the neighborhood rules.

The Mathes family says they are following the rules with the chicken coop less than a hundred square feet with no electricity or water.

Raine's father, Andy Matthes, argues, “"it says only usual and common pets, such as caged birds. We believe this is a cage and these are birds."

Raine says, “I’ll be really sad. These are my pets and I really love them."

Neighbors are now voting on the issue but if the family loses. They plan to fight it out in court.
