Good Day Cafe: Fried Green Tomatoes

Leisa and Lillian Dent from LL Dent in Carle Place, NY, came to the Good Day Cafe to share their recipe for fried green tomatoes.

recipe:

Fried Green Tomatoes

Cornmeal 2 cups

All-purpose Flour 1 cup

Granulated Onion ¼ cup

Salt 1 ½ tablespoon

Black pepper 1 tablespoon

Egg whites 1 ½ cup

Green Tomatoes 4 each

Vegetable Oil 2 ½ cups

Slice tomatoes 1/8 of inch thick

Heat oil to 350 degrees in a large skillet.

This step is optional place (sliced tomatoes in egg whites )

Then dredge the tomatoes in the dry mixture drop into the hot oil, do not over crowd

Skillet because it will lowers temperature and your tomatoes will be soggy. Cook on both sides drain on a paper towel

Horseradish Dressing

Mayonnaise 1 cup

Ketchup ½ cup

Horseradish 2 heaping tablespoons

Mix all in a bowl and place in refrigerator until ready to serve

    What started as a way of lifting her friend's spirits with funny video chats turned into a career for YouTube sensation Hannah Hart. We were talking on G-chat on a web cam. I started drinking and cooking and it inadvertently launched the rest of my career," said Hart.
