Morgan County deputy arrested on child molestation charges

ATLANTA -  A Morgan County Sheriff's Office deputy was arrested by the Newton County Sheriff's Office Monday on allegations that he inappropriately touched a young girl several years ago.

According to the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Daniel McGinnis has been arrested and charged with aggravated child molestation.

According to Newton County authorities the victim recently made an outcry to a school guidance counselor, who prompted authorities to become involved.

The victim, who was 6 years of age in 2006, says she knew McGinnis, who was 21 at the time of the alleged incident.

The victim says the alleged molestation occurred in Newton County, where Mcginnis was a former sheriff’s deputy at.

"Authorities conducted a forensic interview during which a disclosure was made that the suspect touched her inappropriately during the period of 2006 to 2011," says Newton County Sergeant Cortney Morrison.

"Deputy McGinnis is currently suspended without pay pending an internal investigation. He is being held in the Newton County Adult Detention Center pending a bond hearing on Wednesday," says Captain Christopher Bosh with the Morgan County Sheriff's Office.
