Marijuana plans submitted in Oak Park, Hazel Park

Posted: Updated:
WJBK - Petitions to legalize small amounts of marijuana in Oak Park and Hazel Park were turned in Tuesday.

The proposal would let anyone 21 or older possess and transport up to one ounce of marijuana for personal use.

Last year, voters in Ferndale, Jackson and Lansing approved such proposals. Similar laws have also passed in Kalamazoo, Detroit, Flint and Ypsilanti.

State and federal law still says marijuana is illegal.

"It really doesn't alter state law. I think what this initiative is about is sending a message to legislators in Lansing," says Hazel Park City Manager Edward Klonucher.
