Man shot in North Dallas street; police in search of victim's girlfriend

Posted: Updated:
DALLAS - Police are investigating a fatal shooting in far North Dallas and are searching for the victim's girlfriend.

The shooting happened before 1 a.m. Wednesday in the 5700 block of Preston Oaks, near Spring Valley Road.

Matthew De La Garza, 37, was shot several times and was found lying on a street. He died at the hospital.

Police say they’re looking for De La Garza’s girlfriend, 29-year-old Jordan Ridgell. Ridgell was seen walking away from her home Tuesday and has not been seen since.

His brother said he was a decent man and father to two daughters.

"My brother had a huge heart and he was growing into a beautiful man and it's a shame. I hope they find the people or person who did this because it is going to tear apart our family," Jason Brightman said.

No witnesses have come forward and police said they have very little evidence to work with.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Dallas Police Department at 214-283-4813.
