Video: Shooting Outside Grocery Store Sends Bystanders Fleeing

Posted: Updated:
Police have released surveillance video of a daylight shooting that left a 21-year-old man wounded five times, and they're seeking the public's help to identify him.

It was April 16 at 5:27 p.m. when police were called to the 300 block of Somerset Street for the shooting in Upper Kensington.

When police arrived, they found blood on the sidewalk and learned that the victim had been transported to Episcopal Hospital, where he was unconscious and suffering from approximately five gunshot wounds.

After the victim was stabilized, he was transported to Temple University Hospital and immediately taken into surgery.

Surveillance video released by police Wednesday shows the victim coming out of a corner grocery store and talking with another man in a white hooded sweatshirt, and then that man starts firing a weapon, and the shooting is caught on video from two angles.

As the victim falls to the sidewalk, at least seven other people nearby can be seen running for cover, including some who appear to be children.

Police described the suspect as black, in his mid- to late-20s, about 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches in height, wearing that white sweatshirt.

Anyone who has information on the shooting or might be able to identify the gunman is urged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department's East Detective Division by calling 215-686-TIPS (8477), texting it a tip to PPD TIP (773847) or using this electronic form.
