Police: Burglars targeted empty Aurora ATM

Posted: Updated:

Burglars who targeted a west suburban Aurora ATM were in for a big surprise when the machine they damaged had no money inside, the Beacon News is reporting.

Aurora police were called to the Orchard Valley Golf Course, 2400 W. Illinois Ave., on Thursday after employees reported that someone had broken a window to the course’s clubhouse, and attempted to break into an ATM.

Police said the burglary occurred between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 5:45 a.m. Thursday.

When they arrived Thursday morning, police found the machine smashed and pried apart.

Damage is estimated at $2,000.

An employee told police that the machine had just been serviced, and she wasn’t sure how much money had been inside.

A company that services the machine had good news. The machine — which was inoperable when it was targeted — had no money inside.

The burglars made away with nothing.

A camera on the ATM was not working at the time of the burglary.
