One Chicago hockey team faces off underwater

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Now this is going to sound a little strange...

As the Chicago Blackhawks continue to fight their way toward another Stanley Cup, there is one undeniable truth: Hockey season is coming to an end.

Except for one Chicago team that plays year round - that is because when the ice melts, their fun is just beginning.

This is underwater hockey.

Carrie Desmond and Eric the Fish are members of Chicago's only underwater hockey team, a two-team, six-player, non-contact sport that draws people from around the world.

While similarities to ice hockey are apparent, there are plenty of differences inside the pool.

But for the team, the added challenges of water aren't nearly as tough as the problem that faces all unique sports. So, these aquatic athletes continue their mission of recruiting new players - hopefully enough to one day create a second team in Chicago.
