Detroit Dog Rescue's new boarding shelter

DETROIT (WJBK) - Detroit Dog Rescue has a new boarding shelter to house rescue dogs in the city.

"It's a step forward in DDR's mission, as far as opening the first no-kill rescue in Detroit. I think that's what we are, now that we have a significant building," says Daniel Hush Carlisle, DDR's founder.

He says the shelter has been in the works for months after DDR received an anonymous donation of $1.5 million.

The remodeled veterinarian's office can now house 27 dogs.

Pet Supplies Plus and Natura also donated 400,000 pounds of pet food to DDR. The rescue group is also filming a new show, 'Detroit Unleashed', to air on Animal Planet this fall.
