A skunk that recently bit a child in Farmers Branch has tested positive for rabies, according to officials with the Farmers Branch Environmental Health Department.

A 10-year-old boy was at an event over the weekend involving live animals. The skunk got inside the building, located in the 2200 block of Springlake Road, through an open back door.

It proceeded to bite the boy’s ankle before it was trapped and euthanized by Animal Services officials.

The skunk was then sent to the Texas Department of State Health Services, where it tested positive for rabies.

The boy is being treated for rabies exposure, and anyone else who came in contact with the skunk is asked to contact Animal Service at 972-919-8770.
