Homeless Jesus statue unveiled in downtown Chicago

Posted: Updated:

If art is meant to inspire strong feelings and deep thinking, a new sculpture in downtown Chicago is doing its job.

The statue called “Jesus the homeless” was unveiled outside the headquarters of Catholic Charities on Monday.

Without looking closely, you could easily think it's a real homeless person sleeping beneath a blanket on a bench. But, if you do look closely, you'll see it's a bronze depiction of what Jesus might look like if he were homeless.

The piece is meant to remind us that Jesus was a champion of those who are marginalized.

An original version of the sculpture was first placed in North Carolina, where it got mixed reviews.
