DETROIT (AP) -- Officials say problems with Detroit's municipal power system forced some city schools to close for a second consecutive day.

The Detroit Public Schools district announced that 10 schools are closed Wednesday. On Tuesday, 12 Detroit schools shut due to power problems.

City officials on Tuesday blamed damage from strong winds that swept through Detroit on a power outage that closed some schools and darkened traffic signals. The mayor's office said the Public Lighting Department was working to restore electricity service.

Winds also knocked out power this week in some other parts of the state.
