Stowaways caught on big rig in Dallas

Posted: Updated:
DALLAS - Dallas police took two Honduran nationals into custody Tuesday night after they allegedly started banging on the roof of a big rig cab.

According to the Dallas Police Department, the truck's driver said he was driving northbound on Interstate 35 when he heard someone overhead.

He called 911 and continued through downtown onto the Central Expressway. He waited until police caught up with him near Walnut Hill Lane before he pulled over.

Police detained two men who said they were from Honduras.

They explained they had climbed onto the roof of the truck in Edinburg, Texas, which is about eight hours south of Dallas near the Mexico border.

The suspects said they tried to get the driver to stop because the temperatures had dropped and they were very cold.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials questioned them at the Dallas County jail, but they were eventually released.

Oddly enough, police said this isn't the first time the driver has found stowaways on his truck.

Police called the pair lucky to have survived.
