Manayunk Residents Worried After Devastating Flood

Posted: Updated:
"I've never seen it this bad. We're getting ready to get my family out here my little guys going to be 7 months tomorrow,” said Buck Stahlgren.

Flood waters rose so rapidly people inside a Manayunk apartment complex had little time to react.

Fire fighters launched rescue boats to get the families to safety.

Stahlgren continues,“I just saw the girl getting out of the raft. I came in when they had her up to the edge of the water here."

A SEPTA bus was engulfed in flood water all the way to its roof.

Firefighters stepped in to rescue the driver and two passengers as the river came rushing in making the bus barely visible.

“During Sandy we were told and evacuated because of this possibility and it never occurred .So yesterday I didn't think much of it until I turned the corner on 11th on Green St. I realized there was a problem.”

Water seeped into Peter Adamo's townhouse on Flat Rock Rd. He ended up spending Wednesday night in a hotel and by mid-morning he still couldn't reach his front door.

“I haven’t shaved or cleaned up. My hair is sticking straight up,” says Adamo.

Today they are able to assess severity of the storm and people who live here say this is one of the worst floods they've seen.

The river breached its banks fast throughout the night and into the morning

“Weather is weather and these fronts that have been coming in are getting so violent and severe,” worries Richard Littlewood.
