Man shot by police impersonator in Bloomfield Hills

Posted: Updated:
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. (WJBK) - Bloomfield Hills police are seeking a suspected shooter after a man was shot inside his home.

Officers were called to a home on the 200 block of Woodwind Drive, near Lahser Road, around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say a man impersonating a police officer tried to get inside his house. The homeowner, David Zacks, refused entry and stated he was going to call police. The suspect then fired several shots through the closed front door, striking the homeowner several times.

Witnesses say the suspect drove off in a dark-colored vehicle.

Thursday evening Bloomfield Hills Police Chief David Hendrickson told FOX 2's Ron savage the shooting was not random, but would not elaborate on why investigators believe Zacks may have been targeted.

Zacks is being treated at the hospital and is in stable condition. He is an attorney in Birmingham at Ishbea & Gagleard, P.C. The firm's website says Zacks specializes in federal white collar criminal defense, and that he represented the city of Detroit in more than 50 of its most high profile liability and civil rights cases.
