2 brothers sentenced to life in fork stabbing death

Posted: Updated:
Two brothers have been sentenced for the murder of a Harlem man who was repeatedly stabbed with a fork.

Ralph and Keith Stokes were sentenced Thursday to a prison term of 25 years to life in the death of Charles Romo, 48.

Prosecutors say the victim was found with his feet bound with a dog leash and a belt and his face covered with packing tape.

State Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan said imposing the maximum sentence was easy. He said he had never seen two defendants "so completely bereft of redeeming qualities."

Romo was openly gay and an unemployed digital marketer on disability.

"His hands were bound behind his back and he had some clear tape over his face. There was trauma to his head," said former NYPD Cmsr. Ray Kelly at the time of the discovery. There was no forced entry to Romo's home at Hamilton Place.

The New York Times says Keith Stokes apologized to Romo's family before the sentencing, but said he was innocent.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
