Several Dallas residents were robbed recently while in their front yard, porch and driveway.
Dallas police said they have reports of at least seven similar aggravated robberies between April 22 and April 27 mostly in the Red Bird and East Oak Cliff areas.
Specifically, the crimes happened on Green Span Avenue, Heather Glenn Drive, Morning Springs Trail, Millett Drive, Ann Arbor Avenue, Maryland Avenue and Glen Park Drive.
According to police reports, in several of the cases the suspects approached the victim to ask for change or about a car for sale. But in others they simply pulled out a gun and demanded money.
Also in several cases the suspects struck the victim with either a closed fist or gun.
Police are trying to determine if the cases are related, but said the descriptions of the suspects and vehicles vary.
Detectives hope to canvass the area for more information.
Robert Jenkins, 77, is still jittery since last week, when he was jumped.
While getting out of his car in his driveway in broad daylight, a man wearing a hoodie and armed with a gun tackled him, blindsiding him.
“I just remember him standing in that position, pointing a gun right in my face close range,” said Jenkins. “…he just asked for cash. I had my wallet in my pocket, but I’m glad he didn’t, you know…he just asked, ‘Give me your money.’”
A neighbor across the street tried to help.
“[The suspect] pulled a gun on him and made him stand back in the yard behind me,” said Jenkins.
Jenkins says the thief had some help from an accomplice in a brown or blue beat-up old Crown Victoria with front-end damage.
He says police dusted his car for fingerprints. He hopes they find a match.
