Elderly Cleburne man accused of murdering wife

Posted: Updated:
CLEBURNE, Texas - An 82-year-old Cleburne man has been arrested and accused of murdering of his wife, according to police.

Samuel Alfred Ball faces a murder charge after police discovered 87-year-old Betty Ann Ball dead at their home on Monday in the 1600 block of Spring Branch Drive.

Police were called to the home Monday after getting a tip that Samuel had told someone he killed Betty.

Samuel was interviewed at his place of business, and told police that he and Betty had gotten into an argument earlier on Monday, and that Betty had fallen off of a couch and wasn't breathing.

However, an officer forced his way into the locked home and came across Betty's body on the living room couch, covered head-to-toe with a blanket. The officer took the blanket off Betty's head and saw that she had suffered massive head and face trauma that was inconsistent with a fall from a couch.

Police confirm they were called to the house in April about a domestic disturbance. They say Betty decided not to file charges and instead left with a family member.
