One dead, two injured after car hits trees in Arlington

One person is dead and two others are injured after a wreck in southeast Arlington on Tuesday morning.

A white Ford Mustang crashed into trees sometime after 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the 1900 block of Winter Pass Trail.

One person inside the car, 17-year-old Michael Rowlls, was killed, and two others in the car were injured in the wreck. Rowlls was a passenger in the front seat and was not enrolled in school.

The surviving young men in the car were taken to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Arlington ISD said one person in the car attended Seguin High School.

Police said initial interviews with witnesses indicated speed was a factor in the wreck.

Jennifer Deahn, who lives near where the crash took place, wasn't surprised to hear what happened.

"But yesterday there were two of ‘em speeding up and down pretty fast, and that's pretty common for that curve,” she said. “They do it a lot."

Ray Young, who witnessed the crash, was out mowing his lawn when the Mustang came screeching around the curve.

"I heard tires squealing, primarily due to the excessive rate of speed,” said Young.

At Seguin High School, word spread quickly about the crash.

"The whole class was just talking about it, having a conversation about it, and that's when our teacher told us what happened,” said student Alarie Mayze.
