Officer-involved shooting suspect remains on the loose

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Chandler police have been searching for David Gonzales, but there's still no sign of him.  An intense manhunt started Monday after police received a report about Gonzales carrying a rifle.

During the confrontation, officers say Gonzales fired on them and missed.

The 25-year-old has spent much of his life on the wrong side of the law.

On Monday, schools were locked down in west Chandler, a pursuit through an apartment complex and a carjacking -- on Tuesday, a felon is still on the loose.

Police are combing neighborhoods, searching for new leads, but so far, Gonzales has eluded them.

"He is armed, clearly he is dangerous.  He did an armed robbery and a couple of carjackings and willing to shoot at police officers," said Sgt. Joe Favazzo.

Gonzales has a long criminal record.  In 2006, he was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for aggravated assault.  In 2011, another 2.5 years for aggravated assault and probation violations.  Then in November 2013, police say Gonzales tried to flee from officers and crashed his car in south Phoenix.  Police found a gun, which Gonzales wasn't supposed to have and a stolen credit card.

Gonzales was scheduled to go back on trial next month and very likely back to prison, which may be why police say he is now on the run.

"I am very confident it is a matter of time before we catch him, but if you see him, call the police -- do not try to engage him," said Favazzo.

Police say Gonzales is armed and should be considered dangerous.
