Much Needed Infrastructure Changes Plagues Commute In & Out Of NYC

Posted: Updated:
New York, New York (My9NJ) -

The railroads in and out of New York City are packed each day especially at rush hour.

Whether it’s the PATH, Amtrak or NJ Transit there’s really nowhere else like it in the world!

Dana Rubenstein is a reporter for Capital New York who often covers the commute in and out of the Big Apple.

“The portion connecting New Jersey and Manhattan, they describe as sort of the tightest bottleneck in the most congested rail corridor in the hemisphere,” she said.

Amtrak CEO Joseph Boardman said on Monday that the tunnel it shares with NJ Transit that runs from North Bergen into Manhattan has only 20 more years of safe use.

Now a grassy embankment is all that remains of the original planning for the ARC Tunnel. If you recall, that was a multi-billion dollar project funded mainly by federal money that was canceled in 2010 by Governor Christie who said he was afraid that New Jersey would be on the hook for cost overruns. The empty lot is all that is left after $600 million dollars was already spent.

Studies have shown that there is a drastic need for more rail capacity in and out of New York, but current infrastructures are also in need of repairs. For example the 80 year-old dock bridge out of Penn Station Newark which is a huge source of commuter frustration with frequent malfunctions that causes regular train delays.

One girl's threat to post another girl's nude photos on Instagram led to an investigation that uncovered a teen sexting ring involving six juveniles and four New Jersey towns. Little Falls Detective Sergeant James Briggs said that the two girls that initiated the investigation allegedly dated the same boy at separate times. The boy then passed on nude photos that he received from one of the girls onto the other.
