Bridgegate Back In The News As Former Employee Testifies

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

Just when it looked like Governor Christie was able to start moving past bridgegate, the ongoing topic gets thrown back into the news again. This time Christina Renna, who worked directly for Christie’s former Deputy Chief of Staff Bridget Kelly, testified in front of the investigative committee involving the traffic jam back in September.

While Kelly has avoided addressing the media during this whole debacle, Renna gave a different look into who Bridget Kelly was. Renna describes a phone call she had with Kelly where she asked Renna to delete an email that would have established a connection with the lane closures.

“I said, ‘you want me to delete the email?’ I said that to her and she said ‘yes, listen I’m getting a lot of questions and I’m just really nervous and I can’t take getting grilled about this over and over again’,” Renna explained.

Inside the state house, the focus of this investigation definitely seemed to be on Kelly. It was suggested that Kelly never really made decisions for herself and that she relied on other people to make those decisions for her. Renna took the time to describe her work relationship with her boss and mentioned that most of their communications took place via personal email, not a government issued account. Assemblyman Wisniewski asked whether there was a reason behind that and if Renna had received ethics training which would have given her background into discussing work matters via personal email.

Once the hearing and testimony wrapped up Renna didn’t want to speak to any media outlets, but her lawyer Henry Klingeman spoke on her behalf.

“The testimony today was about largely her factual recollection and I’ll leave her private thoughts where they are, private,” he said.

Regarding that email that she was asked to delete, Assemblyman Wisniewski said they will continue to look into it.

“I think that’s going to be an issue for law enforcement to decide, but clearly at the time the request that Bridget Kelly made to Christina Renna she was aware that there was a committee and panel at that time in December, the Assembly Transportation Committee was actively investigating the lane closures and that was an email, in retrospect, that had significance in that investigation,” he explained.

Sadly, Jeter the pit bull puppy is missing. While dogs go missing all the time, there are two specific things that distinguish this story from others. First, several witnesses say Jeter didn't wonder off and that they saw Jeter get taken. Second, the community has rallied in a huge way to help find the loveable pup.

Empty spaces are popping up all over Atlantic City with the closing of three major casinos: Revel, Trump Plaza, and Showboat. Even with all of this going on, the city is still trying to use eminent domain to take away the home of an Atlantic City local legend, Piano Man Charlie Birnbaum. Birnbaum has tuned pianos for icons like: Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, and John Legend. He's been a resident of Atlantic City in the same home for over 50 years.
