Only On Fox: Mother Accused Of Leaving Children In Car

Posted: Updated:

UPPER DARBY, Pa.- Upper Darby police say a woman is facing charges after allegedly leaving her children in the car while she went grocery shopping.

According to police, 37-year-old Marren Mantee left her 5-month-old and 7-year-old child in the car while she went shopping at the Upper Darby Acme on Lansdowne Ave at 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police say the children were left alone in the unlocked Lexus SUV in the parking lot for an estimated 30-45 minutes.

A passerby heard the 5-month-old crying hysterically and called 9-1-1, police say.

According to authorities, they arrived on the scene and calmed down the 5-month-old while the 7-year-old was asleep and sweating profusely.

“You cannot leave small children unattended in a car, there's zero tolerance, so she got locked up for recklessly endangering children, leaving children unattended in a car and she was charged up. You cannot, cannot justify at 11 o’clock at night two small babies in a car what could happen to them. Anything could happen. They could be abducted, some tragedy could happen inside the car,” said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood.

Police say the children are doing well and were transferred to a relative for custody.

Mantee has been charged with reckless endangerment, endangering welfare of children.
