9/11 Memorial Museum Dedication Draws Big Names

Posted: Updated:
New York, New York (My9NJ) - Nearly 13 years after the nation's worst terror attack killed more than 2,700 people at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, the National 9/11 Memorial Museum is set to open.

President Obama, Governor Christie and Governor Cuomo, among others, were all on hand yesterday during the museum’s dedication. Christie addressed the crowd thanking the nation for coming to the support of not only New York City and New Jersey, but to the United States.

“People from over 90 countries died on September 11th and so the world understood that while this happened on our soil, it happened to all of us,” he said.

Families of the brave that fell that day spoke giving heartfelt tales of their loved ones. Princeton firefighter Roy James was present at the dedication. For years he’s been struggling to get a 9/11 memorial put up in Princeton. His wife worked at the world trade center and he recalls how luck was on their side that day, thanks to a little bundle of joy.

“A few days before 9/11 she called out of worked and said that she was going on maternity leave, well because of what happened, it actually saved her life,” he explained.

Good things don’t come without controversy however, and many people are upset about the opening of this memorial museum because they think the admission fee is too costly. The average visitor will be charged $24 to enter the museum, family members of those who lost their lives that day get in for free.

For years there have been protests over charging people to get into this museum, but that isn’t the only thing that is upsetting some people. Since there were so many remains of victims who were never identified, those remains are actually buried in this museum which is underground.

Yesterday protestors held up signs that said, “Dear President Obama, Please help us remove our loves ones’ remains out of the basement of the 9/11 Museum to a respectful tomb up on the 9/11 Memorial plaza.”

The museum will be open to the public on May 21, 2014.

He said he was on his way to work outside of the Hoboken taxi stand when a cop knocked on the window, kicked him out of the car and ticketed the Uber driver.
