ATLANTA, Ga. -

A young boy, 12, is lucky to be alive after a bullet pierced through his bedroom while he was sleeping Friday morning.

Umika Tarver, the boy’s mother, immediately ran to her son’s bedroom after hearing a loud boom.

A bullet pierced through the wall of her second floor apartment, through her son’s bedroom and just inches from where he was sleeping.

The shooting took place at the Providence of Cascade apartment complex.

Tarver told FOX 5 she is usually up at the time it happened getting her kids ready for school. She said she is counting her blessings.

“That was a very close call and I am completely blessed that my son is not hurt or me or anybody else's child,” said Tarver.

Atlanta Police responded to the shooting early Friday morning. No arrests have been made at this time.
