A 22-year-old nursing student graduated Sunday night from El Centro College two years after having open heart surgery at Medical City Children’s Hospital in Dallas.
Shae Clark was a patient of Dr. Eric Mendeloff, Director of Congenital Heart Surgery at the hospital. In 2012, Clark had surgery to repair a heart defect.
Sunday, Clark received her diploma at the Jesse Owens Memorial Athletic Complex in Oak Cliff.
Clark’s mother is also an R.N. Clark says that heritage, plus the surgery helped her find her place in the world as a nurse.
It also inspired her to get a job at Medical City Children’s as a tech.
“I feel blessed to be able to be a part of this team and I"m so excited to be able to continue my career and be able to give back to others that are going through similar things that I did," said Clark.
Clark will be officially pinned as a nurse this week. On July sixteenth, she will begin a new job as nurse at Medical City Children’s Hospital, in the same unit where she had her surgery.
