Teens in custody after Detroit home invasion

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - Three teenagers are in police custody after a home invasion in Detroit.

One of the suspects was held by witnesses until police arrived.

The homeowner was not home at the time. Two friends were working on her car and had left to get parts at the store. When they came back they noticed a broken window and went inside to check things out.

That's when they say they found the 17-year-old intruder.

They were able to tackle him and hold him until police came. One of the witnesses is a CPL holder but chose not to fire his weapon.

When asked why, Herbert Russell responded, "I have children of my own. I have a life that I respect and I honor, and I'm not going to take someone's life unless I see that they're imminent danger to my life or someone else that I love."

Police believe the other two people in custody, a 16- and an 18-year-old, were acting as lookouts.
