Woman who took photo of paramedics says they were doing their job, not posing

Posted: Updated:
WESTLAND, Mich. (WJBK) -- The woman who snapped a photo of paramedics helping a young man who crashed into a tree says they weren't posing, they were doing their job.

The day after the story aired on FOX 2 News, a woman contacted FOX 2 on Twitter.  She said that she was the one who took the picture.  She explained that she has a new 16-year-old driver and she wanted to show her daughter what could happen if she wasn't safe.

On Wednesday, FOX 2 spoke to Jake Glover, 20, who crashed his truck into a tree. He says a stranger sent him the photo on Twitter.  The stranger said she was at the scene and wanted to check on his well being.

In the photo, Glover's truck is clearly smashed into a tree. One paramedic is standing outside of the truck and a second paramedic can be seen inside the truck. The victim, believed to be Glover, is inside the truck in the driver's seat.

Seeing a picture of the accident on social media upset Glover.  He thought it looked like the paramedics were posing for a photo before rushing to helping him.

In the snapshot, Glover thought it looked like casual, unprofessional behavior, but the woman who snapped the photo says that the picture doesn't tell the whole story.

The woman who contacted FOX 2 on Twitter made it clear: these paramedics were doing their job and doing it well.  She said the paramedics did not know she was talking their photo and when they saw her they asked her to move along.

We emailed the photo to Wayne-Westland Deputy Fire Chief Patrick Harder and told him about the victim's accusations.  He says his crews did nothing wrong and agrees with the woman who took the picture.

Deputy Harder says the paramedics did exactly what they should have and followed protocol.  He said the men were standing by the truck waiting for the proper equipment to assist the victim and save his life.
