Were you a fan of "Reading Rainbow?"  Maybe you can remember the theme song.

Well, now it's making a comeback!

LaVar Burton started a Kickstarter campaign on Wednesday, May 28.  He wanted to raise $1 million over the next 35 days.

The fundraising goal was met and exceeded within the first day.

Burton says he wants to bring back "Reading Rainbow" back for "every child, everywhere."

"It was my mother who taught me that, by picking up a book, I could 'go anywhere' and 'be anything,'" Burton wrote on the Kickstarter page.

"Reading Rainbow" started in 1983 and won multiple broadcast awards in its 23 year run, including 26 Emmy Awards.

Burton launched a "Reading Rainbow" app two years ago and with this funding, he plans to launch it on the web so it is available to family who do not own tablets.

Burton also plans to put "Reading Rainbow" in 1500 classrooms at no charge, so all students can be exposed to reading.
