Fort Worth ISD will pay soon-to-be ex-superintendent Walter Dansby more than $900,000 in severance payments.
The board voted 6-to-3 to accept Dansby’s resignation during a meeting that lasted nearly five hours on Monday.
Dansby will get $906,000 over the next year from the district in payments. Dansby will be considered the district’s Ambassador of Public Relations from June 10, 2014 – Jan 31, 2015, then officially retired from FWISD.
A few board members appeared to be upset when his resignation became official at the end of Monday’s meeting and many in the boardroom audience yelled out “no.”
Dansby had been the superintendent for more than two years and with the district for 41 years.
The special meeting was called on Friday, just within the 72 hours required for public notice.
There’s no specific timeline on when an interim superintendent will be named or when a new superintendent will be hired.
