2-legged dog gets wheelchair from generous donor

MUNCIE, Ind. -

A two-legged dog isn't letting his physical challenge slow him down. Bouncing from one corner to another, 5-month-old Sonny doesn't know any better.

“From the get-go, he was just rambunctious, ready to go, full force,” said Sonny’s owner, Kelley Stewart. “Nothing would hold him back.”

He was one of four Chihuahuas born without two front legs. But as you can see, he still manages to get around.

“He hops quite a bit,” said Stewart.

But all that hopping is dangerous. Stewart said it puts a lot of pressure on his chest and nubs and that can one day lead to serious injuries. So Sonny needed a wheelchair.

“A lady in Florida, her name is Susan, her husband passed away a year ago, and since then, she was just in limbo,” Stewart said.

Sonny’s story caught national attention and the heart of that woman who paid for a brand new wheelchair for him.

"She saw the story and she wanted to help in memory of her husband,” said Stewart.

She said the first time she put Sonny in it, he was really scared. But now, he is getting the hang of it.

“When he doesn`t have his wheels on, he's rowdy,” said Stewart. “But with the wheels, he's a lot quicker!”

He’s quicker, happier and now on a path to a healthier life.

“Animals like him get tossed aside, put to sleep, and to me, it`s just a statement that they`re still valuable and he's obviously full of life and he's got a lot of love to give,” Stewart said.

Sonny's sister, Maggie, is also getting a wheelchair. The same thing happened to her and someone saw that she was in need and donated a wheelchair for her.

It was commuter confusion out on Interstate 66 Monday morning. Drivers heading eastbound towards Washington D.C. wound up seeing their traffic lanes suddenly turn into a mess. Lane stripes somehow pulled away from the road surface and created a mess of tangled tape and lanes that didn't make sense.
