(WJBK) - Warmer weather means motorcycle riders have hit the streets, and it's a good time for some safety reminders for riders and drivers. Motor City Harley Davidson in Farmington Hills and Brighton is offering a new Riders Academy for new and experienced motorcyclists. Here are some of the tops tips from the experts at the dealership.

1) Get and endorsement
A motorcycle endorsement is obtained through successfully completing a state accredited motorcycle safe course. The endorsement is issued by the Secretary of State and is required to legally operate a motorcycle.

2) Wear proper riding gear

Proper riding gear includes a DOT approved helmet, long pants and sleeves, eye protection and gloves. Over the ankle boots are also recommended.

3)Don't skip pre-ride bike inspection

Pre ride safety inspections are quick and provide the rider with assurance that their bike is ready for the road. Tire pressure and proper working lights and blinkers are the most common issues.
