Elderly Parker County woman swindled out of $10,000 in scam

Posted: Updated:
AZLE, Texas - An 89-year-old Parker County woman is out $10,000 at the hands of two men pretending to work for an electric company.

The Parker County Sheriff said one of the men is Gregory Long. The sheriff said he had an accomplice, a man in his 20's.

The two told the woman a sensor detected an electrical short that could be dangerous. They charged $10,000 for an hour's worth of work in her attic.

A neighbor says her friend knew that wasn't right but she felt threatened.

"She got scared and wanted them out of her house. They were intimidating her at that point, one person on each side of her and asking her for her bank statement," said Lisa Bowen.

The woman called the bank to stop the check but thieves cashed it 15 minutes before she called.

Investigators said the men may be responsible for two similar scams in Garland and the Abilene area.
