Keller ISD board censures trustee after anti-Muslim comments

Posted: Updated:
KELLER, Texas - The Keller ISD school board censured a trustee on Monday night after she posted anti-Muslim remarks on Facebook.

The board asked Jo Lynn Haussmann to resign for the anti-Muslim comment, but she refused. The strongest punishment the board could then impose was a censure.

Haussman's post complained about low voter turnout in Southlake leading to the election of a Muslim on the city council. She said, "What a shame."

Haussman apologized after the board's censure and said she wasn't perfect, but "I have a forgiving God" and I can go and do an excellent job."

Before Monday's meeting, the school board had issued a statement saying it was disheartened and highly offended by the remarks and wanted the community to know behavior like that was unacceptable.

Most members of the public in attendance at Monday's meeting wanted Haussmann to resign.
