Father's Day events around the DC area

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON - It's a few days away until we celebrate fathers, grandfathers and father figures for being in our lives and being who they are. But what do we do with them? How do we treat our dads to a day they will enjoy and know they are appreciated? Well every dad is different, which makes this even more difficult.

Luckily in the DMV, there is a wide array of activities that you can get involved in for dear old dad:

Father’s Day at Mount Vernon: General Washington will greet his visitors and pose for photographs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. He will discuss his role as husband, stepfather and Father of Our Country. Fathers will receive free admission to George Washington’s Distillery & Gristmill with their ticket to Mount Vernon.

Father’s Day Auto Festival in Crystal City: June 15, 2014, 2-6 p.m. 2121 Crystal Drive & 220 20th Street South Surface Parking Lot, Crystal City, Va. The event will showcase a variety of automobile categories including innovative electric vehicles, sports cars, classic muscle cars, and more. There will be activities for kids, a beer-wine garden and live music.

Manassas Wine and Jazz Festival: Sunday, June 15. Spend the afternoon enjoying wine and live jazz in Old Town Manassas, Va.

Great Country Farms Father’s Day Fish-a-Rama:  June 15. 2014, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.  Great Country Farms, Bluemont, Va. Fishing celebrity and TV personality Bryan Kelly of White Fly Outfitters will be on hand at 11 a.m. to demonstrate spin tackle and fly casting.

Father’s Day 8k: This annual 8K run will take place on a flat course along the C&O Canal Towpath. After the race, awards will be conferred and the Men’s Health Week Campaign will disseminate helpful health-related information.

And if none of these ideas seem fitting for dad, maybe just try asking him what he would like! Or don’t forget how sometimes, doing nothing but relaxing all day can be more than enough.

One side note, don't forget to send us your photos of you and dad and you may see them on TV or on our website. On Twitter and Instagram, be sure to use #Fox5Dads or post them right to our Facebook wall.

Before I go, I want to say Happy Father's Day to my dad and all of the fabulous dads out there!
