An elderly McKinney home day care provider has been charged with sexual misconduct with one of the children she was entrusted to care for.
Charlotte Semrau, 70, cared for ten small children, one of whom is the alleged victim.
A text message sent Sunday night by Semrau's daughter-in-law was the way some parents found out about the allegations, which Semrau plans to fight.
According to court documents, the victim's mother noticed the five year old girl touching herself on the outside of her clothes for several months – then it stopped.
The mother noticed her daughter doing it again last Friday while the family entertained guests and asked her about it. That’s when the young girl began to talk.
“She and Charlotte retreat to Charlotte's bedroom every day that she goes to Charlotte's house and they lay together to ‘rub’,” the arrest warrant affidavit said.
The affidavit also described a time Semrau used a “device” on herself.
The victim told investigators Semrau never assaulted her, but did touch her with the device on the outside of her clothing “and it felt like a bee” the girl said.
The girl also told investigators, “Ms. Charlotte said, ‘Never tell your family the secret that Ms. Charlotte rubs.’”
Semrau has no criminal history and the daycare was last inspected in April, with the only significant violation a lapsed background check on one of the employees.
Semrau was able to post bond and is currently out of jail.
