Marine Surprises Mother At Peirce College Graduation

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA - Tis the season for college graduations, but for one woman Monday’s ceremony was extra special.

Not only is she a part of the inaugural class of Human Resource Management from Peirce College, but a surprise guest was on hand to present her degree.

Fox 29's Thalia Perez was there.

"He was like I'm really sorry, I couldn't make it. I was like ‘It's ok Paul, I know if you could be here you would’,” said Tondaleya Robinson.

Tondaleya’s son Marine Corporal Paul Robinson is stationed in Quantico, Virginia, and hasn't been home in 5 months, so it was the biggest surprise when he walked on stage during her commencement ceremony.

There were hugs and tears, then Corporal Robinson presented his mom with her bachelor’s degree from Peirce College in Human Resources Management in front of all 323 graduates.

"It's kinda indescribable right now because she's watched me grow up," said Corporal Paul Robinson. “My mom is one of my biggest inspirations throughout the passing of my father. I never seen my mom be so strong."

His dad passed away in 2011 after a long illness. Corporal Robinson says his mom put her education on hold for her children who were all present for her special moment.

"I’m proud of everything my mom accomplishes. She raised 3 kids we are taller we than her now, but we don't forget who mom is," he said.

His mother plans to pursue her master’s degree next.

"Words can't express. This is the next best thing to my husband. I lost my husband during my tenure at school," said Tondaleya.

So after all the hardships and sacrifices the marine's surprise to his mom was perfect, and it's something they both will hold close to their hearts forever.
